Six terrorists killed in South Waziristan

Operation involved intense fire exchange between security forces and the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of six terrorists.

South Waziristan, 24 May 2023 (GNP): In an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted on Wednesday, at least six terrorists were killed in the Kot Azam area of South Waziristan district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

The operation, led by security forces, targeted the reported presence of terrorists in the region.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation involved intense fire exchange between security forces and the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of six terrorists.

“The terrorists were found to be actively engaged in activities, including targeted killings, extortion, and attacks against security forces. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from their possession”, ISPR said.

The local population of the area has welcomed and expressed full support for the operation to eliminate terrorism, ISPR stated.

During a recent press conference held on April 25, Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of ISPR, highlighted the army’s relentless efforts in combating terrorism.

He revealed that a total of 8,269 intelligence-based operations had been carried out since January, resulting in the elimination or apprehension of 1,535 terrorists. The operations were conducted in various regions, with a significant focus on Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh.

The army, in collaboration with police and law enforcement agencies, continues to conduct an average of over 70 IBOs daily, to ensure safety and security.
