Islamabad, 12 December 2022 (GNP): Sherry Rehman, the federal minister for climate change, said during her Monday speech to the Donor’s Coordination Group meeting of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) that the policy discussions need to be well-informed by the current ground reality because flood devastation has left affected communities in Sindh and Balochistan destitute and in search of only sustainable livelihoods.

Diverse donors, including those from France, Italy, the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Nations Women (UN Women), attended the conference and expressed interest in the proposal ideas provided by the IUCN team and partnerships.
According to Senator Sherry Rehman, those who were most dependent on nature were not in a position to halt the exploitation of it until they had a reliable source of income. She said the primary focus should be putting these folks back on their feet.
She noted that the farmer would be further affected during the Rabi crop season and the BISP emergency financial assistance programme distributed about Rs 65 billion ($298 million) to the flood-affected people.

Sherry Rehman stated that the Sindh province had suffered the most damage across all metrics, while crop losses in Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir were 53%, 14%, and 14%, respectively (AJK).
The Minister informed the reporters that although there were many people affected, the number of humanitarian supplies received was starting to run short.
