Melbourne, 13 November 2022 (GNP): Top pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi had to leave the field during the T20 World Cup 2022 championship game against England on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) because of a knee injury.
It happened when Shaheen caught Harry Brook with a spectacular grab to send the middle-order hitter back to the pavilion, but he injured his right knee in the process. Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, and Suchen Tendulkar are among those who believe Shaheen’s injury was the game’s turning point in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Babar Azam’s stance
On Sunday, England defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the T20 World Cup final. Shaheen Shah Afridi’s injury, according to Babar Azam, proved to be the turning point in Pakistan’s match versus England at the MCG. While also accepting that Pakistan fell short of where they would have liked to end their batting innings, Babar praised the fast bowlers for their valiant effort.
Sachin Tendulkar‘s prediction
Sachin Tendulkar, India’s ex-cricketer, Congratulated England for winning their second T20 World Cup and said the match was well-contested and would have been more engaging if Afridi hadn’t been injured.
Scenario when Afridi got injured
England still needed 41 runs off of 29 balls when Pakistan’s top fast bowler Shaheen Afridi got hurt and left the field during his third over.
Iftikhar Ahmed then finished out the 16th over of the inning, giving up 13 runs in five deliveries as the tide began to turn in England’s favour.
Shaheen recently made a full recovery from a knee injury he received during the Test series against Sri Lanka in Galle.
