The actor said recent boycott trend of his film 'Pathan' would affect the cinema negatively.

New Delhi, 16 December 2022 (GNP): Shah Rukh Khan said in his speech at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) that the recent boycott trend of his film ‘Pathan’ would affect the cinema negatively.

He stated in his speech, “The collective narrative of the times is shaped by social media. Contrary to the belief that the spread of social media will affect cinema negatively. I feel that cinema has an even more important role to play now.”

He added further, “Social media is often driven by a certain narrowness of views that limits human nature to itself. And it’s somewhere the negativity increases social media consumption and thereby increases its commercial value as well. Such pursuits enclose the collective narrative, making it divisive and destructive.”

The movie ‘Pathan’ directed and produced by Siddharth Anand, stars Shahrukh Khan, John Abraham, and Deepika Padukone. The film is set to release worldwide on 25 January 2023.
