Senate reports 42 journalists killed in Pakistan

Murtaza instructed the Ministry of Interior to formulate a comprehensive and clear report on journalists killings in Pakistan and it should be presented at the house within two months' notice. 

Islamabad, 20 January 2023 (GNP): Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, revealed the secrets of journalists killing Pakistan in the Senate. He claimed that 42 journalists had been murdered in the last four years.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Senator Mushtaq Ahmed showed serious concern about the security of the journalists and the government should utilize all possible measures to overcome a critical situation. Law enforcement agencies have to break down criminal activities that are jeopardizing the freedom of journalism in Pakistan. Foolproof security should be arranged for them.

In addition to this, Murtaza instructed the Ministry of Interior to formulate a comprehensive and clear report on journalists’ killings in Pakistan, and it should be presented at the house within two months’ notice.

A member of the Senate, Baluchistan Awami Party’s leader, Danesh Kumar, raised a point in the report. He said that 10 journalists were murdered in Balochistan and they reported just three killings.

On the other hand, the Minister reiterated that the report was compiled with the help of all stakeholders and the province of Pakistan. If someone reports a wrong figure, he will be accountable because it is a serious issue for journalists’ security.

Last but not least, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Senator Kamran Murtaza, advised the Minister that an inquiry should be initiated to find out actual details of professional duties before they were assassinated in Pakistan.

In a nutshell, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs ensured the upper house that the factual report was clear. As per a unifying report, 15 journalists were killed in Punjab, 11 were in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 3 in Baluchistan.

Muhammad Saad, Safdar Ali, Muhammad Wajid, Zeeshan Ashraf Butt, Mirza Waseem Baig, Saeed Butt, Zia -ur-Rehman Farooqi, Rao Matloob, Husnain Shah, Mian Razzaq, Zahid Ali, Muhammad Nizam, Kashif Hussain, Lala Fazal Jan, Zia Kamboh, Aziz Memon, Ajay Lalwani, Ali Sher Rajpar, Mureed Abbas, Ilyas Warsi, Zulfiqar Ali Mandrani, Noor Lanjwani, Nazim Jokhio, Murtaza Shar, Athar Mateen, Ishtiaq Sodharo, Wahab, Zaman Mehsood, Haroon Khan, Javidullah Khan, Noonul Hassan, Iftikhar Ahmad, Tahir Hussain, Ihsan Ullah Sherpao, Waseem Alam, Abdul Wahab, Muhammad Sohail Khan, Aman Ullah, Qais Javed Maseeh, Abdul Wahid Raisani, Anwar Khetran and Shahid Zehri were the journalists assassinated in the last four years all over Pakistan, he added.
