Saqib Nisar maligned for advocating for justice

Former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar has said that Maryam Nawaz is ridiculing him by calling him “Baba Dam”.

Karachi, 15 March 2023 (GNP): In an interview Judge (Retired) Nisar claimed that he was a target because he stood up for justice. He cited Maryam Nawaz’s alleged “anti-judiciary speech” and charged that she was trying to stir up political turmoil in the nation for personal advantage.

The Pakistan Muslim League-leaders Nawaz’s had attacked the judiciary, according to the ex-CJP, since they had no plans to forward their political goal.

He said that the PMLN had believed that, as chief justice, he would uphold his previous relationships with them, but that instead, he had remained committed to the cause of justice, which was why he had been singled out after his retirement.

Regarding Maryam Nawaz, he expressed that it is unfortunate when one’s children become disrespectful and lack the manners to address elders adequately.

The former CJP claimed that his kids were amused that he was once more a PMLN talking point. He acknowledged that he had no reaction to the political lies that Maryam Nawaz and the PMLN had been spreading. Moreover, he disclosed that the PMLN had previously made two unsuccessful attempts to impugn him, one using a phoney audio tape and the other involving Judge Shamim.

During the interview, Judge (retired) Nisar claimed that Imran Khan had asked for his assistance on NAB matters during their meeting, but he refused.

He stated that he had no contact with any of the government’s serving judges. He said that he had met Imran Khan twice, the first time when he was still the Prime Minister and the second time after he no longer held that office.

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, reportedly requested Justice (retired) Nisar for advice on matters involving the National Accountability Bureau that were not producing results during their initial meeting while Khan was the Prime Minister, according to Judge (retired) Nisar.

Khan also asked Nisar for assistance on suggesting a competent candidate for Shehzad Akbar who was qualified to wrap up accountability matters.

He claimed not to have given Khan any guidance while implying that he ought to have made such judgements on his own. The former CJP said that he had counselled Khan not to bring up the opening of the courts at midnight during their second meeting.

He added that he had urged that Khan should avoid overly insulting the judiciary so as not to damage it. The former CJP revealed that he had seen former army head General Qamar Javed Bajwa twice.

He said that the former army leader had met for the first time to make a contribution, and that they had previously met in Lahore for a second meeting.

He reported that he was told by General (retired) Bajwa that he had visited Lahore to meet his friends. He clarified that he did not discuss General (retired) Bajwa with Imran Khan.

He acknowledged that he had met General Faiz Hameed several times, starting with the issue of missing persons while he was the Chief Justice of Pakistan, and that they had reconnected later.
