Revival of laptop scheme for youth in Pakistan

Introducing a national innovation program to nurture the creative ideas of youth.

Islamabad, 27 May, 2023 (GNP): Shiza Fatima Khawaja, the Special Assistant to the PM for Youth Affairs, announced the reintroduction of the free laptop scheme with a vision of youth empowerment in Pakistan in an interview on Thursday.

In 2013, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif launched the youth program with a vision to empower the young generation of Pakistan, said Shiza.

She added that under the prime minister’s youth program, various projects were launched in which millions of students were given free laptops, scholarships, loans for start-ups, and internships.

During the past 10-15 years, millions of students have benefited from the program, Shiza claimed.

She highlighted that this year, the youth program has expanded further.

Previously, every year, 1 lakh laptops used to be provided to the students, and even during the pandemic, students used those laptops for their academic and business purposes for about three years, Shiza said.

Unfortunately, the program was stalled in 2018, but this year it will be resumed, and 1 lakh laptops will be distributed to the youth, according to Shiza.

She spoke with concern that the former government had distracted the youth, creating a negative impact on their minds through deceptive narratives.

The culmination of the hate politics, which was seen on May 9 violence shows how awry youth has become, she added.

Apart from resuming the laptop scheme, she also disclosed the national innovation program that aims to nurture the ideas of youth who seeks solution regarding climate change and sustainable development worldwide.

She added that almost three thousand candidates have applied for this award program, out of which approximately a hundred candidates will be granted financial aid.
