PTI leader Imran khan remanded for 8 days.

A court in Islamabad remanded Imran Khan in custody for eight days on Wednesday, his lawyers said.

Islamabad, 10 May 2023 (GNP): PTI leader Imran khan has been granted an eight-day police remand on Wednesday by a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court. The agency had requested a physical remand for 14 days.

Khan was arrested on Tuesday on corruption charges related to the unlawful sale of state gifts during his tenure (2018-2022).

Since his ouster as prime minister in April of last year, the Khan has been charged in dozens of cases. These cases include those involving terrorism and corruption. PTI leader said that the effort to oust him from office was being aided by the military.

Since then, PTI leader has participated in dozens of political rallies where he demanded early elections for the country. He referred to the coalition led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a “imported” administration.

Since Khan was removed from office, his support has increased as a result of the government’s failure to confront an extraordinary economic crisis that has caused price increases to affect millions of people.

People who support Khan have come to the streets around the nation to express their rage at the powerful military establishment. Imran Khan’s supporters believe that Army is responsible for Khan’s removal.

Khan’s arrest sparked violent protests across the country.  His supporters clashed with police and set fire to government buildings and vehicles. Many people have been killed and hundreds have been injured in the unrest.

The government has accused Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), of orchestrating the violence and has deployed troops in provinces to restore order.
