PTI chairman Imran Khan arrested in Islamabad

Imran Khan was arrested by the Rangers from outside the Islamabad High Court when he had appeared for bail renewal in the Al-Qadir trust case.

Islamabad, 9 May 2023 (GNP): Paramilitary Rangers arrested PTI chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan from outside the Islamabad High Court when he had appeared for bail renewal in the Al-Qadir trust case.

The Rangers broke down a window to get to him and whisked him away to an unknown location without any warrant or due process.

In response, PTI’s leadership strongly condemned the illegal and unconstitutional arrest of their leader by the paramilitary forces in Islamabad today.

The arrest of former prime minister and PTI leader Imran Khan came amid the soaring tensions between him and the powerful military establishment.

Since his ouster from the government last year, former premier is continuously accusing senior military officials of plotting to assassinate him, and accusing former army chief of being behind the attempt to remove him from the government

In a rare move, ISPR issued the public press release on Monday that refused Khan’s allegations.

However, former premier in response on Tuesday morning repeated his allegations. He also added that a senior ISI officer Major-General Faisal Naseer is also responsible for the murder of senior Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif who was assassinated in Kenya in October last year.
