London, 10 January 2023 (GNP): Princess Diana was also known by her real name, Diana Frances Spencer will have her purple cross gown belonging from her personal closet, placed at Sotheby’s Master Week in New York on January 21 after which it will be auctioned on 27th January. The famous aubergine silk velvet dress was designed by a British couturier named Victor Edelstein. The estimated value of the gown is $120,000 (PKR 27.27 million).
The Princess of Wales died in a car crash on 31 August 1997, aged 36 in Paris. After her passing, a few of her dresses, jewellery and other accessories she wore were sold at auctions. The same dress which is being sold at Sotheby’s was worn by Diana for a photo shoot with Vanity Fair in 1997, only a few months before her tragic death.

The Sotheby’s out the dress on display on their website describing it in the following words:
“A dramatic ball dress, in ‘Infanta’-style, from the Collection of Diana, Princess of Wales. A strapless, evening dress of deep aubergine silk velvet, with a tulip-shaped stiffened skirt, augmented by three paste buttons at the back, designed by Victor Edelstein.”
