President Arif Alvi meets with Chinese foreign minister Qin Chang

The visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister came a day after the SCO-CFM hosted by India ended.

Islamabad, 6 May 2023 (GNP): Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang met with Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi. The Chinese Foreign Minister is visiting Pakistan to participate in the tripartite talks among the Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China.

The visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister came a day after the SCO-CFM hosted by India ended.

President Arif Alvi asked Qin Gang to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. The President emphasized on greater the friendship between Pakistan and China as the international situation is changing profoundly.

The President said that the Pakistani side is very thankful for Chinese assistance in combatting the new crown epidemic, post-disaster reconstruction, and evacuating Pakistani citizens from Sudan.

The President further said that Pakistan is looking forward to cooperating with China with regard to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and strengthening cooperation in agriculture, information technology, and connectivity.

He stressed that Pakistan is committed to the One China policy, extended support for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and said that the two sides should contribute to the peace and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

He assured the Chinese Foreign Minister that Chinese personnel and institutions in safe in Pakistan.

Qin Gang also conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings to President Arif Alvi and said that Pakistan and China are all-weather strategic partners.

He said that consolidating the friendship between China and Pakistan has been the priority of previous governments of both countries.

The Foreign Minister said that China has always stood by Pakistan, supporting its unity, prosperity, national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He highlighted that China is ready to work jointly with Pakistan to accelerate the construction of CPEC and to deepen cooperation with Pakistan related to the industry, agriculture, information technology, and disaster mitigation to help it recover its economy.

He emphasized people-to-people and cultural exchanges and conveyed that China is ready to strengthen coordination and communication with Pakistan on Afghan issues to promote peace and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

The visit came after the visit by Pakistan’s COAS to China last month. The COAS holds high-level meetings with Chinese officials.

Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir visited China last month on 25 April. He met China’s top diplomat Wang Yi and the vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, General Zhang Youxia.

During the visit by the COAS, Chinese Premier Li Qiang talked with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on a phone call. The visit by the Army Chief was seen as a boost to the ties between China and Pakistan.
