Islamabad, 23 December 2022 (GNP): During the Presentation of Credentials Ceremony, the newly appointed envoys of Canada, Austria, Syria, Serbia, and the Slovak Republic handed President Arif Alvi their credentials. The ceremony was conducted at Aiwan-e-Sadr on December 20, 2022.
Leslie Scanlon, the High Commissioner-designate for Canada, Andrea Wicke, Ramez Alraee, the ambassador-designate for Austria, and the non-resident ambassadors-designates for Serbia and the Slovak Republic, Dragan Todorovic and Ladislav Ballek, also called the President separately afterward.
The President said that Canadian enterprises had to be encouraged to investigate the possibilities in Pakistan. He also emphasized Pakistan’s strong market prospects, 220 million-person market, and investment prospects during his talks with the Canadian Ambassador.

The Reko-Diq project’s resolution, he continued, was a good step, and he hoped it would stimulate further Canadian investment in Pakistan.
The President welcomed the Austrian envoy and stated that Austria had a special place in Pakistan’s heart, both bilaterally and within the framework of the European Union.
He explained that Austrian businesses could take advantage of Pakistan’s relatively open investment policy and think about investing in the Special Economic Zones being established around the nation.
In his meeting with the Syrian ambassador to Pakistan, the President emphasized the need for continuous communication between the two nations’ various levels of government in order to further solidify friendly ties.

He asserted that Pakistan and Syria have complex and long-standing relationships, and that the populations of the two nations are linked by their shared history, religion, and culture.
He praised the decision made by the airlines of both nations to run direct flights between Karachi and Damascus and acknowledged the goodwill gesture made by the Syrian government in granting group visas to Pakistani Zaireen.
The President stated that in order to bring their bilateral economic and trade connections up to par with the actual trade potential, both nations must work carefully to enhance them. He made this statement while speaking to the non-resident ambassador-designate of Serbia to Pakistan.
Additionally, he emphasised Pakistan’s fantastic opportunities for investment and collaboration in the areas of hydropower, communication, higher and technical education, industrial and commercial interaction, renewable energy, information technology, circular economy, and waste management technologies.
In his conversation with the non-resident ambassador-designate of the Slovak Republic, the President expressed his hope that he would be able to further deepen bilateral connections between the two nations.
The fact that the foreign ministries of both nations had established a system for bilateral political consultations, which would give a good chance to assess the overall relationship and launch new initiatives, was observed by the president with satisfaction.
He also stated that the government of Slovakia and enterprises should reap the benefits of Pakistan’s highly open investment policy. The ambassador-designate may choose to achieve this.
