Vatican, 14 December 2022 (GNP): Pope Francis, in his weekly general audience, said that people must not forget about Ukrainians this Christmas who are suffering from cold, having no winter clothing to wear, and nothing to eat in this cold.
Pope Francis urged for a “humble and simple Christmas” this year, remembering the Ukrainians’ sufferings due to Russia continued attacks from last February.
He pressed for more “concrete charitable gestures” for the people of Ukraine. he further said it is not bad to celebrate Christmas and have parties, but it would be more meaningful if they spent less on them and donate more to the Ukrainian brethren who are now in distress.

Pope has always spoken about “the martyrs of Ukraine” who died for the defense of their country against the Russian invasion.
The Vatican also made a drive to collect warm clothing for the Ukrainian people who are facing a harsh winter right now due to the destruction of energy infrastructure deliberately hit by Russian missiles and bombardiers. Such moves and goadings on behalf of Pope Francis were also always frowned upon by Moscow.
Earlier, Russia’s ambassador to the Holy See protested against the statement of Pope Francis in which he attributed Chechen and other non-Russian supporters of Moscow for all the cruelties of war and called this a “tradition nothing to do with Russia”.

In wake of a “humble and peaceful Christmas,” Pope Francis wrote letters to all heads of state around the World to show a “gesture of clemency” to eligible prisoners.
“This would bring peace, tranquillity and the grace of the Lord to the World at a time wrought by Injustices, tensions and conflicts,” Pope Francis said.
