PM Shehbaz called National Apex Committee meeting

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired the National Apex Committee to find out actual details and issues of terrorism and others domestic problems.

Islamabad, 24 February 2023 (GNP): To discuss the state of law and order in the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called a meeting of the National Apex Committee on Thursday in Islamabad.

The top committee will examine and develop a plan to address the wave of terrorism that is sweeping the nation. The service chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, the Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, the Director of Intelligence Bureau, and the heads of other intelligence agencies, will attend the huddle, which will be presided over by PM Shehbaz Sharif.

Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Finance and Revenue, and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the minister of defense, will also be present.

The discussion had obvious relevance in light of the recent trips to Kabul by the defence minister and the DG ISI, the sources added.

After a protracted hiatus, Islamabad made a high-level visit. It is understood that throughout the delegation’s time in Kabul, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) actions on Afghan soil, which are seriously endangering the peace in Pakistan, were the subject of in-depth discussions.

The sources also stated that shortly after gaining control of the Afghan capital, the Taliban administration gave Pakistan their word that they would not permit any terror group to use Afghan soil against Pakistan.

They should point out that the government, after the Peshawar Police Lines Mosque incident earlier this month, agreed to conduct an all-parties conference (APC).

Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), criticised the notion of convening an APC in response and declined a request to participate in the key debate.
