Beijing/Tehran, 17 October 2021 (GNP/TDI): Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, and Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian had a telephonic conversation discussing the JCPOA and other regional and bilateral issues.
Iran Foreign Minister also stressed the necessity of implementing the 25-year comprehensive cooperation plan of Iran and China.
China will work to further develop the China-Iran Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Wang said.
Wang stated that China will continue its support for Iran in matters that affect their core interest and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation on international and regional issues with Iran.
Moreover, China is open to working together with Iran to ensure justice and fairness in international affairs.
The two countries should work together pragmatically and achieve consistent results, Wang suggested, adding that they should also intensify their cooperation in combating COVID-19, to end the pandemic.
Wang stated that the first meeting of foreign ministers representing Afghanistan’s neighboring countries has been timely, crucial, and appreciated by relevant parties.
He indicated that the meeting would also improve communication and coordination between other multilateral organizations related to Afghanistan, to foster greater synergy.
Wang expressed China’s support for Iran hosting the second meeting and expressed a hope that the meeting will continue the positive momentum, pay full attention to the strengths and highlight the unique features of neighboring nations to contribute to Afghanistan’s long-term stability.
Abdollahian stated, “Iran-China relations are strategic”. He also said that the Iranian new government will implement the consensus reached by the heads of states and staunchly push forward the comprehensive cooperation plan between Iran and China.
He expressed gratitude for China’s firm support in combating the pandemic and stated that Iran plans to increase its cooperation with China and making the second meeting between foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighbors a success.
