Baku, 30 April 2023 (GNP): At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday, Sergio Perez won for the second time this year and for the sixth time in his career, guiding Red Bull to a 1-2 finish with teammate Max Verstappen. The Mexican driver completed a great weekend for himself and his team by winning the sprint race on Saturday as well.
In the early laps, Perez and Verstappen passed Ferrari’s pole-sitter Charles Leclerc and held onto the lead the rest of the way. Verstappen, who had stopped earlier under yellow flags, was passed by Perez when a safety car time presented itself.
However, the two Red Bull drivers then maintained control of the pace and won by a comfortable margin over Leclerc, who took third place.

Sergio Perez:
“I’m thrilled with the outcome. We worked really well as a team and implemented our plan flawlessly. I want to express my gratitude to everyone at Red Bull for their dedication and help. I give this remarkable victory to all of my supporters, who have been rooting for me”.

Verstappen:
Verstappen applauded his teammate’s performance and offered his congratulations after extending his lead in the drivers’ championship to six points over Lewis Hamilton, who came in sixth.
Further, he stated, “Sergio performed superbly today. I’m glad for him because I think he deserves to win. He’s been a wonderful addition to the club and has already displayed his quickness and dependability. We had a good vehicle today and we won some vital points for the title”.
Christian Horner:
Moreover, Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull team, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome and gave Perez credit for his outstanding weekend.
Horner stated, “Sergio Perez has performed superbly on this track. He has always been quick around here, and this past weekend was no exception. Perez had a faultless race and did a great job of controlling the tyres and Max’s margin. He’s been a great teammate for Max, and the two of them have challenged one another to the maximum. This is a fantastic outcome for the team, and we can’t wait for the next race in Miami”.

On May 14, the Miami Grand Prix will host the next round of the Formula One season.
