Palestinian state is only solution and condition, says Saudi FM

The Saudi Foreign Foreign Minister said that his country would establish relation with Israel only after Tel Aviv accept the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Riyadh, 20 January 2023 (GNP): The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud said the creation of an independent Palestinian state would be the only solution and prerequisite for formally establishing relations with Israel. He said this in an interview with Bloomberg TV at the World Economic Forum at Davos.

The Saudi Foreign Minister added that true and genuine normalcy and stability in the region only come if an independent Palestinian state is created according to the desires and wishes of the Palestinian people.

Other Middle Eastern Arab countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, established their relationships with Tel Aviv in 2020. These formalizations of relations were brokered by the US through an agreement known as the Abraham Accords. After this historic breakthrough, Israel is eager to expand its relations with other countries in the region.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked with the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan about the developing situation in the region and ways and means for regional stability and normalization.

Jake Sullivan also discussed the new situation with the Palestinian leaders, who are very cautious about the new far-right government of Benjamin Netanyahu and his moves against the Palestinians.

Netanyahu who became the prime minister of Israel of the sixth term, pledged that he would establish relation with Riyadh thus normalizing relation with all Arab countries and giving a new shape and look to the Abraham Accords, he had signed with the UAE and Bahrain.

Netanyahu and Jake Sullivan also discussed Iran and security of the region. Both Arab countries and Israel are always suspicious about Tehran.

Supporting and working for a separate Palestinian state has always been a key principle and demand of Riyadh for the formal acceptance of Israel as the state.

The UN declared 2022 to be the deadliest year for the Palestinian people since 2006. Israel Army killed 171 persons in the West Bank, among whom were 30 children, while in the besieged Gaza Strip, 244 Palestinians were killed by them.
