Pakistan’s Ambassador Presented Credentials to OIC Secretary-General

Jeddah, 20 December 2022 (GNP): Pakistan’s newly designated Permanent Representative to the OIC, Ambassador Syed Mohammad Fawad Sher, met with Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha and presented credentials on December 19.

The two talked about efforts to strengthen relations between OIC member states and Pakistan. Hissein Brahim, Secretary-General of the United Nations, reviewed his recent visit to Pakistan and sent his best wishes to Ambassador Fawad Sher and Pakistan’s leadership.

He also praised Pakistan’s strong participation in the OIC and its presidency of the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers.

He also promised Pakistan his complete assistance. Ambassador Fawad Sher stated his willingness to work to develop ties between Pakistan and member countries.

Earlier this month, before taking over as Pakistan Permanent Representative, Ambassador met with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto on November 24, 2022.

The Ambassador requested advice from the OIC forum on how to further boost Pakistan’s standing in the Islamic community.

Meetings of the Outgoing Permanent Representative

Former Pakistan’s pioneering Permanent Representative, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, paid a goodbye visit to Secretary General OIC on December 17 before departing from Jeddah.

In a meeting, the Secretary-General recognized and praised Ambassador Rizwan for successfully completing his tour of duty.

Furthermore, he restated the OIC’s core position on the Kashmir conflict in favour of the full implementation of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.

Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh, the outgoing Permanent Representative, thanked the Secretary-General for his constant support during his tenure and hoped that the same would be offered to his successor.

On the same day, the Saudi Permanent Representative to the OIC organized a goodbye lunch in Jeddah for outgoing Ambassador Rizwan Sheikh.

The reception was attended by Jeddah-based Permanent Representatives to the OIC and prominent members of the OIC General Secretariat.

They praised Ambassador Rizwan’s professionalism and leadership qualities in directing different meetings and procedures at the OIC during Pakistan’s Council of Foreign Minister’s chairmanship.
