Pakistani ambassador attends International Investment Forum in Belarus

Mogilev, 25 November 2022 (GNP): Sajjad Haider Khan, the Pakistani ambassador to Belarus, attends the Mogilev City International Investment Forum.

Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan took part in the XIII International Investment Forum “Mill of Success,” which took place in Mogilev on November 25. Among the keynote speakers were the deputy minister of the economy of Belarus and the vice-chairman of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee. The event was attended by government officials, businesspeople, investors, and members of the diplomatic corps from about 15 different nations. Alongside the Investment Forum, the Ambassador also stopped by the Mogilev area business show.

During the plenary session of the Investment Forum, the Ambassador addressed the businesspeople and expressed his gratitude for the invitation and the visits to JSC “Shagovita,” a major footwear manufacturer, and JSC “Mogilevliftmash,” the largest manufacturer of lifts/elevators and component parts. He also praised the quality of the products being produced.

The Ambassador also emphasized the growing friendship between the two nations and urged the attendees to take advantage of business and investment possibilities there. The ambassador called attention to Pakistan’s booming construction industry and asked businesses from Belarus to attend one of the country’s buildings expos to learn more about potential business prospects.

Pakistan-Belarus Ties

Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognise Belarus after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Pakistan maintains an embassy in Minsk and Belarus has one in Islamabad.

Pakistan and Belarus created joint ventures (JVs) in the textile, pharmaceutical, and lighting solutions industries while working together on technology.

A total of $15.23 million worth of goods were exported by Pakistan to Belarus in 2014, including 36% of rice, 9.27% of light pure woven cotton, 10.03% of styrene polymers, 7.43% of food preparations, 4.48% of leather clothing, and 4% of citrus.

In Pakistan, imports from Belarus totaled $42.65 million, with tractors accounting for the majority (62.04%), followed by synthetic filament yarn (13.11%) and rubber tyres (8.06%).

Belarus also expressed its support for Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and promote international peace and stability.
