Pakistan Women team to compete in 4-Nation Cup in Saudi Arabia

Lahore, 5 December 2022 (GNP/ TDI): Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has confirmed that Pakistan’s Women’s Football team will participate in Four-Nation Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan will feature along with three more teams in Four-Nation Asia Cup to be held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia from 11 to 19 January 2023. The four teams include host Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Comoros, and Mauritius.

PFF will share details regarding the Women’s team training camp and squad later. The last international tournament Pakistan’s women played was the 2022 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship in September.

After 14 months of suspension, FIFA lifted PFF’s ban on 30 June 2022. Pakistan women’s Football team after that competed in the 2022 SAFF Women’s Championship. It was Pakistan Women’s team’s first international match since 2014.

Seven teams competed for SAFF Women’s Championship title and two groups were formed. Pakistan in group A lost to India and Bangladesh. However, the team won only one game which was against the Maldives by 7-0.

AFC U20 Women’s Asia Cup

Pakistan’s Women’s Under 20 Football team will also play in the qualifying round for AFC Under 20 Women’s Asia Cup in March 2023.

Uzbekistan will host Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under 20 Women’s Asia Cup in 2024. AFC unveils the qualification round for the AFC U20 Women’s Asia Cup classified into 3 Rounds.

In the first round, 35 teams will compete in eight different groups. Pakistan will compete with host Cambodia, Myanmar, and Malaysia in Group G. Pakistan Women U20 team to play its fixtures from 4 to 12 March 2023.

The eight group winners will proceed to Round 2 of the qualifier stage scheduled from 1 to 11 June 2023. The four best sides will play finals from 3 to 16 march 2024.

FIFA lifts suspension on PFF

FIFA imposed the ban on Pakistan Football Federation in April 2021 due to third-party interference; on 29 June 2022, FIFA decided to lift the ban.

In its statement, FIFA stated that it received confirmation that the normalization committee of PFF had regained complete control of PFF’s premises and financing.
