Pakistan will effectively resolve its food crisis, Jordan Princess

Islamabad, 29 November 2019 (GNP): The World Food Program (WFP) Special Advisor on mother and child health and nutrition, Her Royal Highness Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan said that Pakistan will be able to overcome its food and nutrition crisis as a result of committed leadership. On conclusion of her four day visit to addressing barriers to Pakistan, where she saw first hand how WFP is supporting the Government of Pakistan in addressing barriers to goodhealth and nutrition for the country’s children.
During her meetings with top government officials, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Princess advocated for the partners to focus more on the first 1000 days as a strategy to reduce malnutrition. According to recently released National Nutrition Survey, two thirds of households across the country cannot afford a nutritious diet while only 3 percent of children receive the right quality and quantity of foods.
The princess also met Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Dr. Zafar Mirza, Minister of National Health Services, Dr. Sania Nishtar, Chief Minister Balochistan, UN Resident Coordinator and other representatives of UN agencies.
This visit was arranged keeping in view the special work of WFP to ensure that every child gets right nutrition -an integral part of the SDGs and the government’s Vision 2025. (GNP).
