Harare, 29 May, 2023 (GNP): Pakistan Shaheens received a penalty of five runs over ball-tampering against Zimbabwe Select in the final one-day international (ODI) six-match series in Harare.
The game was vitiated by a debate over ball tempering incident as the person who tempered the ball remains unknown. It is also unclear how badly the ball has been tempered with.
As per the rules if an umpire believes that the ball is tempered with, the batting side receives an option of replacing the ball and is awarded five runs.
Law 41.3 of the Laws of cricket deals with altering the conditions of ball which states, “Regardless of whether a replacement ball has been chosen to be used, the bowler’s end umpire shall award 5 Penalty runs to the opposing side.”
