Pakistan overtakes India in ICC ODI rankings

Pakistan were ranked third, with 112 points and briefly went to the top of the charts after their victory in the fourth ODI against New Zealand this month.

Dubai, 11 May 2023 (GNP): Australia have maintained their No.1 position in the MRF Tyres Men’s ICC ODI Rankings after the latest update. Australia face fierce competition ahead with Pakistan and India on their toes.

Australia strengthened their rating from 113 to 118 following the update, maintaining lead over Pakistan 116 and India 115 points.

India was a decimal point behind Australia prior to the annual ICC ODI rankings update, with 113 points. After winning the fourth one-day international against New Zealand earlier this month, Pakistan rose briefly to first place.

If Pakistan were able to sweep New Zealand by a score of 5-0, they could have maintained their position at the top of the rankings even after the annual update.

The annual rankings take into account all series that have been completed since May 2020. Series that have been completed prior to May 2022 receive 50 percent of the weight, while subsequent series receive 100 percent of the weight.

Pakistan have moved ahead of India in the second place, as their 4-0 defeat in England in 2019 is no longer counted. Their 3-0 loss in England in 2021 also has less impact, which helps them overtake India in the rankings. India have suffered a big blow by losing 2-1 at home to Australia this year.

The top three have a big lead over the rest, with New Zealand (104 points) in fourth place. They have moved past England (101 points) who are now fifth. England have lost 10 points in rating, as their 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup win is no longer counted.

South Africa (sixth) and Bangladesh (seventh) keep their positions after the annual update. But there is a huge change below them as Afghanistan jump to eighth place, leaving behind Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Afghanistan have increased their rating points (88 from 71) while Sri Lanka (80 from 86) have dropped. West Indies have the same rating of 72.
