Pakistan Government will not change fuel prices

Government of Pakistan has announced that petrol prices will remain unchanged till February.

Islamabad, 16 January 2023 (GNP): Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister of the Pakistan Government, has announced that the prices of petroleum will remain the same as the present and won’t increase till February. He said this while addressing a media conference in Lahore on important decisions taken by the federal government.

He spoke when a question was poised on the speculations of fuel prices increasing, to which he confirmed that petroleum prices would be maintained as they are and no changes would be implemented for the remaining 15 days of January.

He clarified: “Petroleum prices will remain as they are at Rs214.80 per litre. Diesel is being sold for Rs227.80 per litre and will remain as it is. Kerosene oil is currently priced at Rs171.83 per litre and that will also remain unchanged. Further, light diesel oil (LDO) is presently priced at Rs179 per liter, and that too shall remain unchanged for the next 15 days.”

Previously, the government was to announce the new fuel prices to be implemented from January 16 to January 31 but the finance minister has now said that no changes would be introduced as advised by Nawaz Sharif.

According to old reports, prices of petrol were expected to increase by Rs 8.98 per liter while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) was expected to rise by Rs 1.06 per liter. Currently, consumers are being charged Rs 50 per liter in petroleum levy on petrol and Rps 32.50 per liter on HSD.
