Lagos, (GNP): OpenAI acquired Chat.com, further solidifying its presence in the AI landscape. As of today, Chat.com now redirects to OpenAI’s AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the acquisition via email.
Chat.com is one of the oldest domains on the Internet, having been registered in September 1996. Notably, HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah purchased it last year for $15.5 million, marking it as one of the top two publicly reported domain sales of all time.
While the acquisition adds a high-profile asset to OpenAI’s portfolio, it does not signify a rebranding; ChatGPT will continue to operate under its established name. The domain’s previous ownership and significant sale price highlight the value associated with premium digital real estate in today’s tech-driven world.
