OGRA allows hike in gas prices

OGRA allows to increase natural gas price by 75.35pc.

Islamabad, 11 January 2023 (GNP): Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (OGRA) has allowed Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), two major gas-providing companies, to inflate gas prices by 74.42pc and 75.35pc today.

The decision means SNGPL has been allowed to increase its gas rates by Rps 406.28 and SSGCL by Rps499.28. This decision comes after the two companies SNGPL and SSGCL made petitions back in 2022 to increase gas prices as each company had recorded a decrease in its revenue.

Earlier, the average gas rates of SNGPL were Rs. 545.89 which now would be Rs. 952.17. On the other hand, SSGCL’s average rate has been hiked from Rs. 662.63 to Rs. 1,161.91.

This hike in gas prices will affect domestic consumers the most as they will be witnessing their prices triple. Moreover, Ogra’s decision has been sent to the federal government which will further give a green light for the price hike, in case it decides to do so.
