Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said nuclear war is not an option and India must abandon its nuclear weapons.

He said this in an interview to Fox News in Washington DC.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan is visiting Washington DC on his first official visit to the United States.

Imran Khan said If India complies with this demand Pakistan will also not use nuclear weapons. He added Pakistan has a comprehensive nuclear command and control system.

The PM said the country’s armed forces are professional forces and are fully capable of dealing with every challenge.

Talking about the Kashmir issue, he said the United States is the only country which can play a role of mediator between Pakistan and India to resolve the long-pending issue of Kashmir.

The prime minister said Pakistan and the US were important allies in the war on terror and both the countries suffered loss due to mistrust in the past. He added that prisoner swap issue could be discussed with the US.

Long time vocal for peace through talks, Prime Minister Khan said that only election could bring peace in Afghanistan as the United States has been fighting a war in the country for the last four decades but failed to bring peace in the war torn country.

Relying to a question about Shakil Afridi, he said Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency provided the United States with a lead that helped them trace Osama Bin Laden.

The prime minister made his claim when he was asked whether his country would release jailed Afridi. It is said Afridi’s fake immunization drive helped the United States track and kill Osama Bin Laden in 2011.

About US-Iran standoff, the prime minister feared that it could affect the peace and economy of the region.
