Nida Dar named captain of Pakistan women’s team

Nida Dar has been named captain of the Pakistan women’s team, Mark Coles has been named as the team’s head coach, and former Test cricketer Saleem Jaffar has been named chair of the women’s selection committee.

Lahore, 6 April 2023 (GNP): As part of significant appointments approved by PCB Management Committee Chair Najam Sethi, Nida Dar has been named captain of the Pakistan women’s team, Mark Coles has been named as the team’s head coach, and former Test cricketer Saleem Jaffar has been named chair of the women’s selection committee.

The selections have been made in light of the PCB’s vision and goal to invest more in women’s cricket as well as the impending international assignments, which include hosting South Africa and touring to Bangladesh and New Zealand for the ICC Women’s Championship 2022–25 matches.

The Pakistan women’s squad is set to play five bilateral cricket series, totaling 15 ICC Women’s Championship 2022–25 ODIs, over an 11-month span from August 2023 to July 2024. Pakistan will play up to 17 T20 Internationals in addition to these 50-over matches.

The 10-team ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and the eight-team ICC Women’s World Cup in India, which will take place in 2024 and 2025, respectively, will be preceded by these ODIs and T20Is.

“I want to congratulate Nida, Mark, and Saleem on their appointments. Nida is an experienced and well-respected player, Mark has a track record of coaching women’s cricket, and Saleem brings with him a plethora of expertise and experience from throughout the world,” says Najam Sethi.

“I am sure that Pakistan women’s cricket will develop and prosper under the direction and supervision of Nida, Mark and Saleem”, he further added.

On her appointment, Nida Dar said, “Being named the captain of the Pakistan women’s cricket team is an honour. I’m eager to lead the team in the future tournaments despite the fact that it is a tremendous responsibility. I want to express my gratitude to the PCB for giving me this duty, and I’ll do everything in my power to move the squad ahead”.

Aug/Sep 2023 – South Africa tour to Pakistan (three ODIs & three T20Is).

Oct/Nov 2023 – Pakistan tour to Bangladesh (three ODIs & three T20Is).

Nov/Dec 2023 – Pakistan tour to New Zealand (three ODIs & three T20Is).

Feb 2024 – West Indies tour to Pakistan (three ODIs & five T20Is).

Jul 2024 – Pakistan tour to England (three ODIs & three T20Is).
