Earlier this year in February, the chairman of PCB management committee Najam Sethi had informed that PCB management under Ramiz Raja and Ehsan Mani had agreed with the current six franchises that addition of new teams is unlikely in upcoming two seasons of Pakistan Super League.

Giving his remarks on new teams for PSL, Najam Sethi said that there are demands to expand PSL. However, due to agreement between Ramiz Raja and Ehsan Mani with the franchises only six teams will compete in PSL for the next two years. In addition, he also pointed out that the project actually consist of eight teams. Therefore, to add two additional teams franchises need to be convinced. In this regard Najam Sethi affirmed that franchises will not suffer loses and claimed PCB to be responsible for any loss a franchise may suffer.

Continuing his remarks, he said, “but, there is a strong demand for the addition of two additional teams, and it will be more successful if many people express interest in participating. Let me tell you, even if there were ten teams right now, the great demand would cause all of them to be sold.”

Chairman Sethi also acknowledged the legitimate worries voiced by the current franchises about potential income loss and the impact on market saturation.

He said , “Franchises have a lot of understandings and worries about their income and whether or not the market can support them. We need to talk about it because without them, we can’t move on.”

“They must participate in the consultation procedure. But what I will say is that if these two teams are brought to the PSL, it will be a win-win situation for everyone because so many people are interested in buying them”, he added.
