Rome, 1 November 2021(TDI): The Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the G20 summit. The two counterparts discussed the bilateral relations concerning common goals.
They emphasized contacts between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart through video link in the last two months. They agreed to promote multilateralism in the world.
Chinese Foreign Minister urges cooperation
Chinese Foreign Minister expressed that the continuous contacts between the two states show that these countries are committed to promoting cooperation in the world. He also said that “False Democracy” is a serious threat to the world. He further stated that China looks forward to expanding its cooperation with China in multiple fields. Wang Yi expressed gratitude for the Russian President, who declared China as the most reliable strategic partner of Russia. He added that China is dedicated to working with Russia in creating a global community based on shared values and multilateralism.
Russian Foreign Minister agreed to expand cooperation
Russian Foreign Minister said that the recent contacts between the heads of the two states have stimulated the relations of the two states. He agreed with his Chinese counterpart to promote multilateralism and to defend international rule of law in the world. They also agreed to enhance anti-pandemic cooperation. The two sides agreed to strengthen the cooperation in international organizations such as the United Nations and Group of 20 (G20). They also debated on the recent developments in Afghanistan and Iran Nuclear Talks. The two counterparts agreed to cooperate on these important issues to safeguard the peace and stability of the region.
The two counterparts discussed AUKUS
Russian Foreign Minister with his Chinese counterpart expressed concerns on the formation of a trilateral alliance of Australia-United Kingdom-United States(AUKUS). They feared that this military alliance based on cooperation on nuclear submarines will lead to nuclear proliferation. The two counterparts expressed that it will disturb the regional peace and stability and will cause an arms race in the region.
Promotion of democracy
During the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to promote the true form of democracy in the world. They agreed that democracy is the safest way to peace and security of the world. They stated that democratic discrimination will create further problems in the world. This will formulate distrust of countries on democracy. The two counterparts agreed on expanding their cooperation to strengthen their bilateral relations.
China and Russia enjoy good relations. The two countries have supported each other in regional and international affairs. They also shared common goals and shares partnerships in several regional and international organizations. They aim to further strengthen their relationship.
