Maroof Int’l Hospital Islamabad commemorates World Kidney Day

About 850 million people worldwide are afflicted with some form of kidney disease.

Islamabad, 9 March 2023 (GNP): Maroof Int’l Hospital Islamabad commemorates World Kidney Day on March 9, 2023, while re-emphasizing its commitment and advocacy for patients with chronic kidney disease, dialysis and transplantation; this year’s theme was: Living well with kidney disease: Preparing for the unexpected and supporting the vulnerable population.

About 850 million people worldwide are afflicted with some form of kidney disease. With an annual incidence of approximately 100 per million population, Pakistan is likely to have 23,000 new Endstage kidney disease patients requiring dialysis or transplantation in 2023, said Prof.Mujtaba Quadri, Head of Nephrology Dept & the Chair Pakistan Society of Nephrology Research taskforce 2022-2024.

He added that Pakistan still barely spends 1 percent of its GDP on healthcare. With diabetes and its sequelae assuming epidemic proportions, including Chronic kidney disease in nearly 30-35 percent of diabetics, our Government must proactively address Kidney disease as a national emergency. The key strategies may be dealt with at a primordial, primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care levels.

Dr. Mujtaba Quadri said that the Nephrology department at Maroof Int’l Hospital is providing six days of the week inpatient and outpatient consultation services and dialysis in three shifts besides 24/7 emergency care.
