Maldivian State Minister receives Credentials from FAO Representative

The FAO country representative accentuated the importance of the FAO role to the Maldives.

Male, 5 October 2021 (GNP/TDI): Newly appointed Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative for the Maldives, Vimlendra Sharan presented credentials to Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Ahmed Khaleel.

He presented credentials in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Male. The FAO country representative accentuated the importance of the FAO role to the Maldives. He also emphasized the commitment of FAO to work cordially with the Maldives to enhance cooperation between the FAO and Maldives. Ahmed Khaleel also highlighted the need for a consultant stationed locally to deliver special support to the Maldives.

Maldives joined FAO in 1971 and was ascribed to the FAO Representative’s Office in Sri Lanka in 1979. Incumbently, FAO aspires to strengthen food security and work for sustainable rural livelihood. It has a special focus on climate-smart agriculture and fisheries.
