Latif Afridi killed inside Peshawar High Court

Latif Afridi, Former President of Supreme Court Bar Association, killed outside the high court in Peshawar and shooted inside the bar room.

Peshawar, 16 January 2023 (GNP): Latif Afridi, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, was killed outside the Peshawar High court and shot inside the bar room. Latif Afridi was accompanied by lawyers in the bar room when an unknown gunman opened fire on him, and he got injured and shifted to the hospital immediately. He passed away when doctors checked him and recovered six bullets from the dead body.

Moreover, according to the Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), Kashif Abbassi claimed that he arrested the shooter on the spot and retrieved the weapon of the shooter and attacker, identified as Adnan Afridi.

The family of the attacker belongs to a legal fraternity. SSP Kashif Abbassi said that it might be an enmity incident, but he had launched a further investigation to find out actual details and facts. Adnan Afridi has been taken into the custody of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.

Additionally, Latif Afridi was a prominent lawyer, politician, and social activist in Pakistan and former president of the Peshawar High Court Bar and Supreme Court Bar Association. Also, he was a Member of the National Assembly from 1997 to 1998 and a senior leader of the National Democratic Movement.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the cowardly attack on Latif Afridi and hoped that justice would proceed and exemplary punishment would be given.

The Deputy Speaker and senior minister also condemned and sent condolences to the victim’s family and demanded an unbiased and neutral investigation of the killing of Latif Afridi.

The Pakistan Bar council called a strike all over the country for the Latif Afridi killing incident and requested transparent interrogation into this murder.
