Joint military drills of US and South Korea

The computer based military simulation would be conducted by both countries to enhance their military capabilities in case of possible a nuclear attack by North Korea.

Washington, 17 February 2023 (GNP): The US and South Korean militaries will conduct a joint computer simulation exercise next week about the possible nuclear attack by North Korea.  This computer-generated scenario would be held at the Pentagon to further strengthen their military ties in the face of increasing South Korean nuclear threats to Seoul and the whole region at large.

The military officials in Seoul said that it would not only enhance the military capabilities of the South Korean armed forces and the response of the US forces and its nuclear weapons in case of a possible nuclear attack on them as well.

The tense relationship between North Korea and South Korea is further strained after Pyongyang conducted numerous nuclear tests last year.

Moreover, a law passed by North Korea is also viewed with caution by the US and South Korea that allows Pyongyang to use nuclear weapons preemptively.

This puts Seoul on high alert, as the missiles carrying nuclear payloads tested and developed by Pyongyang can strike any part of South Korea.

It was in this context that the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, declared this January that the US deployment and presence in the Korean peninsula would be boosted up both in men and materials.

The schedule of this computer-generated military exercise was fixed in last November’s meeting between the US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, and the South Korean Minister of Defense, Lee Jong-Sup.

Meanwhile, North Korea warned that this exercise between South Korea and the US is a rehearsal of an attack on Pyongyang.

Experts say that joint military drills of Seoul-Washington have also given an opportunity in disguise to North Korea to check and perfect its nuclear weapons.
