JI to hold nationwide convention for minorities in Islamabad this September

The goal of this convention is to formulate comprehensive recommendations concerning the rights of minorities, Sirajul Haq said.

Mansoorah, 24 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Mansoorah witnessed a momentous peace conference organized by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Thursday, with the participation of representatives of various minority communities, including Senator Kamran Michael. The event highlighted the urgency of preventing occurrences like Jaranwala and safeguarding the rights of minorities in Pakistan.

Amir Jamaat-e-Islami, Sirajul Haq, emphasized the nation’s commitment to hosting a nationwide convention in Islamabad this September, joined by human rights leaders. The goal of this convention is to formulate comprehensive recommendations concerning the rights of minorities.

Siraj-ul-Haq declared that impunity for events like Jaranwala must cease; demanding the establishment of a National Commission on Minority Affairs to address their grievances.

Senator Kamran Michael underscored unity, suggesting that minority rights were symbolized by the white color on the national flag – a collective emblem that must remain unstained. He called for equal treatment during blasphemy cases and rejected division along religious lines.

Sardar Bishan Singh and Sajid Phatia echoed the call for change, urging an end to such incidents and appealed the international community to ensure respect for sacred texts.

Notably, JI pledged to promote education for Christian youth and to construct churches and homes for the Christian community in Jaranwala, reaffirming their commitment to harmony and inclusivity. This conference marks a pivotal step towards a more harmonious and tolerant Pakistan.
