Islamabad (GNP): Pakistan has launched the first National Sex Offenders Register (SOR) under the Ministry of Law and Justice.
National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC) on the launch of the first SOR said that it “signals a firm commitment to combat sexual violence.”
The NCRC further highlights that this launch “marks the fight against sexual violence, enhancing law enforcement’s ability to monitor offenders, protect survivors, and ensure justice through stronger efforts.”

The Chairperson of NCRC, Ayesha Raza Farooq expressed her pleasure in launching Pakistan’s first National Sex Offenders. She further said, “This is not just a tool” but “it’s a pledge toward a safer, more just Pakistan.”
Furthermore, she stated that the violence against women and children is not only in Pakistan but worldwide. She further highlighted the statistics of the violence reported in Pakistan. She stated that “only a handful of the 2.5 million cases of sexual violence” are reported in Pakistan.

She then highlighted the Anti-Rap Act 2021, which is the “most comprehensive attempt” to address sexual violence. She mentioned the policies of the Anti-Rape Act which are improving with time to ensure peaceful implementation.

The recent National Sex Offender Register is one of the most significant and recent initiatives of the Anti-Rape Act. She said that this Act will “enable Pakistan to use the Sex Offenders Register as part of its toolkit to address sexual violence.”
Moreover, she explained the functionality of the SOR to allow “centralized data entry,” “retrieval for investigation and prosecution,” and “data security and supervision” of the whole process to ensure the information is recorded safely and timely.
