Baghdad (Iraq), 5 January 2020 (GNP) : After the US assassination of General Qassem Soleimani Iran’s top military commander on Friday, in Baghdad the commotion is seen throughout the globe. Iraq, Syria and Lebanon condemn the attack while Turkey and China fear escalation as Iran vows to avenge the death of Soleimani. In an extraordinary parliamentary session on Sunday Iraqi parliament approved a bill, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country following the assassination of Soleimani, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
“The Iraqi government must work to end the presence of any foreign troops on Iraqi soil and prohibit them from using its land, airspace or water for any reason,” the resolution reads. “No, no, America…long live Iraq”, was chanted inside the hall, before Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi also called on parliament to end foreign troop presence. “Despite the internal and external difficulties that we might face, it remains best for Iraq on principle and practically,” said Abdul Mahdi addressing the parliament.
