International Conference on China-Pakistan Cooperation-Tsinghua University

Islamabad, 14 December 2021 (GNP): As a result of the ongoing 70th anniversary celebrations of Pakistan-China diplomatic ties, an International Conference on China-Pakistan Cooperation was held at Tsinghua University, Beijing. It was jointly organized by the Tsinghua International Centre for Communication Studies and Pakistan Cultural and Communication Centre and School of Aerospace Engineering.
During the conference, experts from both sides exchanged views on deepening academic linkages along with cultural, economic and trade ties between Pakistan and China. Speakers noted that there is huge potential existing between the Universities, educational institutions and vocational training centers that can help both sides to strengthen ties.

It was also highlighted that due to ever increasing relations between Pakistan and China, student exchanges will help to improve cultural and people-to-people ties. During the discussion, it was highlighted that expert level cooperation in the field of education is another way to build partnership.

Through education and sharing of knowledge related to teacher’s training, faculty development programs and curriculum that can help students to unleash their scientific approach towards latest trends are few of the steps that can be jointly taken. China has an enriched and forward looking education system that has produced phenomenal results by offering opportunities for students to excel. With Pakistan having vibrant educational institutional institutions from secondary levels to higher education, there is a possibility for cooperation. These were the views from the participants.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Moin ul Haque highlighted that Pakistan-China ties are rooted in bilateral trust, mutual understanding and commonality of views on major global challenges. Reviewing the steady development of economic and people-to-people relations, he observed that Pakistan and China would continue their successful cooperation to make CPEC a high quality development project of the Belt and Road Initiative and further deepen bilateral cultural cooperation.

He has further highlighted his recent meeting with the Chinese officials to resolve the issues related to Pakistani students. He has said that Pakistan and China are cooperating to help students to receive best of education facilities. The Ambassador expressed hope that both sides would continue to use existing mechanisms to foster stronger relations between the academic and research institutes and professionals of the two countries for joint benefit.

Ambassador said that CPEC has entered into an important phase of agriculture, industrial and socio-economic development. President of Tsinghua University Peng Gang said that as both countries are sharing the same pursuit of building a community of shared future for mankind. He has quoted Pakistan’s National poet Iqbal and Chinese philosopher Confucius about the similarity of their thoughts.

During the event, a photo exhibition by a Professor Li Xiguang, Director of Tsinghua University’s Center for Pakistan Culture and Communication was also held where he has highlighted the beautiful Swat valley of Pakistan. Held in offline/online formats, the conference was attended by more than 100 participants including Ambassador of Pakistan; Professor Mr. Peng Gang, Vice President of Tsinghua University; Mr. Li Xiguang, Director, Pakistan Cultural and Communication Centre; Senator Mushahid Hussain; Dr. Shahid Hashmat and Professor Ejaz Akram. Leading experts, intellectuals and representative from several Pakistani and Chinese universities also participated in the event.
