Ambassador Tugio said that the two countries manufactured good quality products that could complemented each other. Indonesia supplies vinyl and polyester, and Pakistan well-known for the best manufacture of textiles and garments. He also mentioned that Indonesia produced half of the world’s spices, which are the primary components of “garam masala.” He claimed that Indonesian and Pakistani were fond of spices and that export of spices from Pakistan to Europe and the US was increasing due to increasing demand from overseas Pakistani.

The envoy alluded to a study by one of the Chamber of Commerce identifying this positive trajectory but simultaneously reminded that Pakistan still imported some spices. “Since Indonesia is the world’s biggest exporter of spices, we can team up to produce the best quality of garam masala for Pakistani overseas in those continents,” added the envoy.

Ambassador Tugio also mentioned the interest of some investors from Indonesia to invest in Pakistan and made reference to the geo-economic and geo-strategic location of Pakistan as a trade hub for Central Asia. “CPEC infrastructure will contribute to enhancing trade connectivity in the region and to Central Asia,” the Envoy said. He further encouraged Pakistani businessmen to participate in the “Pakistan-ASEAN Trade Exhibition” to be held in Jakarta in May by TDEP and explore more business opportunities with ASEAN trading partners.

As part of FPCCI, PIBC was established to promote bilateral trade between Indonesia and Pakistan. The Chairman of PIBC,  Abid Nisar, received the highest distinction award, “The Primaduta Award,” from the Indonesian government for his outstanding performance in trade between Pakistan and Indonesia.
