Imran Khan’s arrest: PTI to challenge IHC’s verdict in Supreme Court

Islamabad, 10 May 2023 (GNP): Pakistan-Tahreek-Insaaf (PTI) announced to challenge the verdict of Islamabad High Court (IHC) that termed the arrest of Imran Khan, the former premier and the chairman of PTI, as legal.

According to the statement of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, senior vice chairman of PTI, the senior leadership of PTI held an emergency meeting on Wednesday on the arrest of party chairman, and decided to take his case to the supreme court.

He also remarked the nation-wide protests on the arrest of Imran khan as ‘natural process’ and called Khan’s arrest as unjustified.

In addition, Shah Mehmood Qureshi also called on the workers of PTI to continue nation-wide protests as it is their “right”. But he also cautioned them to “remain peaceful” and refrain from violating law.

Meanwhile, PTI leadership has also announced that it will continue its nation-wide protests unless Imran Khan is released

The arrest of Imran Khan

On Tuesday Imran Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from the premises of the IHC in the Al-Qadir case.

The court took notice of the havoc wrecked in the court’s premises by Rangers to arrest Imran Khan. Later that day, IG Islamabad Police and interior secretary were summoned by the court for the explanation, and issued contempt of court notices to both IG and interior secretary for ‘vandalism’. The court also ordered to lodge an FIR for violence against lawyers on the court’s premises.

However, the court reserved its verdict on the arrest of Imran Khan and announced it late at night: terming the arrest of Imran Khan as legal.
