Government bans traditional manufacturing of electric fans and bulbs

After June of this year, no company in the country will be permitted to produce or market the current traditional fans and bulbs.

Islamabad, March 3, 2023 (GNP): As part of its energy conservation plan, the government has opted to stop manufacturing and buying traditional fans as of July this year.

The decision was made on the Ministry of Science and Technology’s suggestion in this context; a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) would be announced soon.

The National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) has been entrusted with assuring the manufacturing of reduced power-consuming fans that demand less than 80 watts of energy.

The national standards for fan production must also be modified, according to a decision from the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).

The decision allows for producing and selling fans in the one-star category requiring less than 80 watts.

The decision allows for producing and selling fans in the one-star category requiring less than 80 watts. Five-star fans, which use less than 45–50 watts of electricity, are those with AC inverters.

As with the sectors producing energy-saving bulbs, meetings will also be undertaken with the fan manufacturing business to produce electronic items that are energy efficient.

A plan to offer energy-saving fans to customers in installments is also being looked into to make them more affordable. These can be paid for by power bills; however, each house will only receive one of these fans.

The Power Division and NEECA will monitor Pakistani-made electrical appliance performance criteria.

Only appliances with an energy efficiency of over 90% may be produced, and the production of appliances with an energy efficiency of 90% or less would be disallowed.

The Power Division has developed a list of electrical appliances with an efficiency rating of 90% or below.
