Former finance minister Sartaj Aziz passed away in Islamabad

Islamabad, 3 January, 2024 (GNP): Former Finance Minister Sartaj Aziz passed away in Islamabad on Tuesday, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to Pakistan, as confirmed by government and PML-N officials.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced his passing through a heartfelt message on social media, expressing deep sorrow at the loss of a stalwart leader.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mr. Sartaj Aziz. A stalwart, a true icon, and a towering figure! His contributions to the nation and towards the party will never be forgotten,” the statement read.

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi shared condolences and praised Aziz’s life, highlighting his courage, dignity, and integrity. Abbasi praised Aziz’s substantial contributions to the nation.

Aziz’s impactful career spanned senior roles in the Ministry of Finance and the Planning Commission, where he played a pivotal role in shaping economic policies that guided Pakistan through significant periods, as cited by state-run Radio Pakistan.

PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal acknowledged Aziz as a veteran of the Pakistan movement, recognizing his invaluable contributions.

“He will be missed very much. His services for the nation will always be remembered,” Ahsan Iqbal remarked.
