First National Peace Conference Held to Encourage Unity

Resolutions were also produced at each session to support the organisers' efforts to establish peace.

Pasay City, 3 February 2023 (GNP): On January 25, 2023, the inaugural National Peace Conference took place under the banner “Peace Builds One Nation, One Future: Peace is Here.” The Conference’s goal was to develop a thorough plan for attaining peace-based national unification. The rally drew more than 1,500 proponents of unity.

For the media, women, religious and ethnic groups, academics, young people, and parliamentarians, there were two plenary sessions and five parallel sessions during the conference. Resolutions were also produced at each session to support the organisers’ efforts to establish harmony.

During the second plenary session, the resolutions were merged to ask President Bongbong Marcos to declare January 24 to be “National Peace Day” or “Truce Day.” In keeping with this, it is important to remember that this day was proposed to promote intercommunity harmony after the signing of a civilian-led peace deal in General Santos City in 2014.

Following that, it was declared “HWPL Peace Day” in 2015 and 2016 by Ahod Ebrahim, the Chief Minister of BARMM, and Toto Mangudadatu, the then-Governor of Maguindanao.

The establishment of a National Peace Day, according to the organisers, would work as a platform for annually celebrating and recognising peace-related initiatives all around the country.

At the first National Peace Conference, a significant step was made towards improving the Philippines’ future and fostering racial harmony through peace.

The event was organised by Dr. Ronald Adamat, Chairman of Volunteer Individuals for Peace (VIP) and Commissioner of the Philippine Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Dr. Adamat emphasised the need for harmony and stability to dominate the country and for peace to be a language that is universally spoken and understood when addressing the audience.

He declared peace to be a pandemic and advised people to actively pursue peace rather than merely relax in it. It is important to mention that Chairman Lee Man-Hee of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), a 92-year-old Korean War veteran, was also there.

“Peacebuilding in Mindanao after the conflict is becoming known worldwide,” Chairman Lee emphasised during his speech.

He said, “Starting with Mindanao and the Philippines, peace will come to our planet when we join in love. As a result, everyone in the Philippines has to unite and act as peace ambassadors.

Dr. Adamat and Chairman Lee initially met in 2017 at the HWPL World Peace Summit in South Korea due to their common dedication to fostering peace.

To this end, CHED and HWPL signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) in 2018 to include peace education in curriculum for higher education.
