Elon Musk Launches an AI Company

According to the state company registration, Musk, who is already in charge of Twitter and Tesla, is listed as a director of the X.AI Corporation founded on March 9.

San Francisco, 16 April 2023 (GNP): Elon Musk has launched a brand-new artificial intelligence company named X.AI Corp. in the US state of Nevada, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Musk is credited as the company’s director, while Jared Birchall, who is widely considered Musk’s right-hand man, is given the title of the company’s secretary.

Despite calling for a six-month hiatus in the creation of AI software like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Musk still manages to make great strides in the invention of his own AI. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but departed the company in 2018 amid a rivalry over power.

Lately, Musk combined Twitter with a brand-new “X” shell company, preserving the platform’s identity but changing its name.

The change is viewed as an effort to create a social networking platform that accepts payments, making it “the everything app,” similar to how Chinese applications like WeChat operate. This week, Twitter made a public declaration that it was teaming with eToro to let users trade stocks and cryptocurrencies.

Last month, it was rumored that Musk would work on AI under the cover of Twitter, but it is now obvious that he intends to create AI with this new, independent firm in Nevada.

According to an Insider report, Musk has hired highly-skilled professionals, such as Igor Babuschkin and Manuel Kroiss, as part of his AI project at Twitter. He has also purchased thousands of expensive and powerful integrating chips.

Babuschkin was hired away from Google’s parent firm Alphabet’s DeepMind, which deals with artificial intelligence.

A few weeks before Musk and other experts signed an open letter urging a pause in the development of AI, X.AI was set up.

The Future of Life Institute’s website posted the open letter, which recommended a six-month halt on the creation of potent AI systems. Musk sponsored the Future of Life Institute.

According to the wealthy CEO of Tesla and other notables, “AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity”.

Academics and industry leaders including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak were among the signatories. They asserted that the pause should be utilized to enhance surveillance and guarantee the security of systems.

According to its opponents, the letter was a “hot mess” of “AI hype” that even misinterpreted an academic article.

Major internet giants like Google, Meta, and Microsoft have invested years in creating AI systems to help with search, translations, and customized marketing.

The fact that ChatGPT has developed into an intriguing tool for those who wish to experiment with large language models (LLMs) that respond to questions presented in natural language makes it quite obvious that Musk’s demand for a six-month hiatus was solely driven by his self-interest in the AI arms race.
