ECP wrote letter to President for Punjab’s Election

Election Commission of Pakistan declared the date of elections in Punjab and wrote a letter to President for final approval of polls date in Punjab.

Islamabad, 3 March 2023 (GNP): The Punjab Assembly elections will take place between April 30 and May 7, according to a proposal made on Friday by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Sikandar Sultan Raja, presided over the third straight meeting of the Election Commission today.

The electoral body claimed that in response to the ruling by Pakistan’s Supreme Court, it had sent a letter to President Arif Alvi.

After the president chooses a date, “the panel is prepared to fulfil its constitutional and legal tasks,” it declared.

However, the commission stated in its letter to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ghulam Ali that it is awaiting his response in light of the Supreme Court’s directive.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has meanwhile welcomed the decision of Election Commission of Pakistan. The ECP was praised for making a “step in the right direction” in terms of development.

Fawad Chaudhry, a top PTI leader, said in a video statement that the Supreme Court had “allowed the President and the ECP to go beyond the 90-day time limit but had used the word bare minimum” in its decision.

“We believe that the ECP has made a positive move, and the President will now declare a date for the elections,”

Fawad congratulated the country on the development and said it was a triumph for the PTI, the country, and the Pakistani Constitution.
