Dell to layoff over 6500 workers

The company made the decision in the light of global economic crisis and recession.

Texas, 8 February 2023 (GNP): Dell announced its plans to reduce employment by about 5% in a regulatory filing on Monday, the latest example of a big business lowering costs in an uncertain economic environment. Sources claim that Dell employs around 133,000 people. The 5% reduction would affect more than 6,500 workers at that level.

The cutting was justified by the ‘difficult global economic environment’ according to Dell. The company’s current measures, such as travel limitations for staff and a hold on external hiring, according to Jeff Clarke, vice chairman of Dell, are insufficient.

Jeff Clarke, the vice chairperson of Dell, said while addressing the employees: “What we know is market conditions continue to erode with an uncertain future. The steps we’ve taken to stay ahead of downturn impacts — which enabled several strong quarters in a row — are no longer enough. We now have to make additional decisions to prepare for the road ahead.”
