Islamabad, 5 January, 2024 (GNP): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the schedule for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2024, with the tournament set to run from June 1 to June 29.
The event, jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies, promises an expanded 20-team spectacle across various states and territories.
In a groundbreaking move for cricket, the tournament’s opening match on June 1 at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas, Texas, will witness the United States taking on Canada.
Both teams will make their debut appearances in the T20 World Cup, marking a historic moment for cricket in North America.
One of the most awaited clashes in the cricketing world, the rivalry between India and Pakistan, is scheduled for June 9 in New York City at a brand-new venue in Nassau County, 30 miles east of Manhattan.
This encounter is among the eight games set to be held at the 34,000-seat modular stadium, promising an exhilarating experience for cricket enthusiasts.

With a total of 16 games set to take place in the United States, this marks a significant milestone, marking the first major international cricket tournament hosted in the country.
Established cricket venues like Lauderhill in South Florida will feature matches involving powerhouse teams like India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Peter Hutton, chair of T20 World Cup Incorporated, expressed excitement, recognizing the massive opportunity to expand the sport’s audience in the United States through these venues hosting the world’s best cricket players.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice highlighted the significance of this event in tapping into new frontiers, making a mark in the world’s largest sports market.
He also emphasized the historical significance of having an ICC event return to the West Indies, known for its rich cricketing history.
The tournament’s format features four groups of five teams each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the ‘Super Eights.’
The subsequent Super Eight stage will unfold in the Caribbean, leading up to the semi-finals in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago on June 26/27 and the final slated for June 29 in Barbados.
The T20 World Cup 2024 promises thrilling encounters, including defending champions England commencing their title defense against Scotland on June 4 in Barbados, and England facing arch-rivals Australia on June 8.
