Critical situation: 20 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza inoperable

Gaza, 14 November 2023,(GNP): The head of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, mentioned that Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza is no longer operating as a hospital. He emphasized that hospitals, meant to be safe places, are now witnessing destruction and tragedy, urging the world not to remain silent about these distressing events.

In northern Gaza, Israeli forces have blocked hospitals, preventing them from helping people inside. According to sources, at least two babies died at a hospital, and many more are at risk because of power cuts. As fighting rages in nearby areas, thousands of people in Gaza have sought refuge near Al-Shifa hospital.

The Al-Quds hospital in Gaza City is currently not operational due to a shortage of generator fuel, as reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent. Israel has repeatedly claimed that hospitals in Gaza are being utilized by Hamas for their activities.

According to UN agencies, approximately 3,000 patients and staff are stuck at the hospital complex without enough food and water. Apart from two babies in incubators, a man also passed away because his ventilator stopped working due to a power outage.

“The lack of electricity, water, and extremely limited internet for three days has significantly hampered our capacity to offer essential care”,stated the head of WHO.

Additionally, Al-Shifa director Mohammad Abu Salmiya dismissed Israel’s assertion that their troops delivered 300 liters of fuel to the hospital. He mentioned that even with 300 liters, the generators would only run for no more than a quarter of an hour.
