Commissioner Karachi banned swimming in sea due to surging tides

Karachi, 29 June 2024, (GNP): Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi has imposed ban on swimming in the sea for one month due to surging tides. The ban applies to all areas within Karachi’s surroundings.

The commissioner has issued a notification under Section 144 to implement the ban, which will remain in effect until July 27.

According to notification large and dangerous waves are forming near the coast in Karachi, that may cause risk to the lives of those swimming in the sea.

According to the notification, local Station House Officers (SHOs) have been authorized to file cases against individuals who violate the ban.

Authorities will be patrolling the beaches to implement this ban and ensure compliance. Signboards will be placed at all major beach access points to aware the public of the swimming prohibition.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice, pending a review of sea conditions. The Commissioner’s office stimulate citizens to stay informed about weather and tide conditions and to prioritize safety when planning entertainment activities near the coast.

On the third day of Eidul Azha, a young man swamped while swimming at Sandspit Beach. Edhi rescue teams were searching the swamped person till late. His body was recovered late in the night.

Edhi spokesperson said that four people swamped in the sea, three were rescued while one young man was still missing.
