Chinese Foreign Minister pledges to prioritise US relations

The new Chinese Foreign Minister, Qing Gang, in his tweet, expressed his good working experience with American friends and hoped for a peaceful future for the two countries.

Beijing, 3 January 2023 (GNP):  The new Chinese Foreign Minister, Qing Gang, warmly praised the United States after assuming the office of foreign minister, conveying a message that the relations between the two biggest economies are getting back on their track after a long period of political straining specially over Taiwan and the speaker Nancy Pelosi visit to Taipei in last August that heat up the relations between Washington and Beijing.

Qing Gang was made the foreign minister of China after his predecessor, Wang Yi, was promoted to the Chinese communist politburo in last October with an expectation to play a major role in the new orientation of Chinese foreign policy.

In his tweet, foreign minister Qing Gang praised the hard-working and talented American friends that he met in his stint as an ambassador to Washington. He expressed his firm belief in working for more cooperative and peaceful relations between the two countries in the future.

An atmosphere of hope and positivity spread after this tweet from foreign minister Qing Gang. The ties between China and Beijing are expected to get smoother and straighter after the visit of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, due at the start of this year.

Earlier, President Biden and President Xi Jinping met at G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, last November, signaling that the two sides are ready to talk to each other on different issues.

As a diplomat par excellence, Qing Gang aptly displayed the soft image of China in the United States. He shot free throws at Washington Wizards basketballs and rode with Elon Musk in a Tesla car.

As an ambassador of China, he tried to mitigate the intensity of some hot topics like the Ukraine invasion by Russia or war with Taiwan by saying that Beijing does not support the war between Kyiv and Moscow, nor is Beijing planning an attack on Taipei.
